Usain had his chance to show his stuff, in the face of his critics, at the 2012 London Olympics. Runners of Jamaican decent have actually been dominating world sprinting as far back as Ben Johnson in the 1980s (who was born in Falmouth, Jamaica), and Donovan Bailey in the 1990s (born in Manchester, Jamaica). Why would they though, with so much else to offer. Usain had a simple and happy childhood apparently. Usain's journey to the top was almost complete, but there was still one more test for him before he could become the greatest of all time. Once again Usain won both events with relative ease and forever put his name into the history books.
In almost no time Usain started moving up the local rankings in the 100 and bent bolt 200 meter sprints. Jamaica is not done yet, there continues to be a pipe clamp stream of talent coming out of this amazing island nation.
What is it about Jamaica that creates so many sensations that are embraced and loved by the rest of the world? From food to music, Jamaica has indelibly stamped its presence in the minds of the world. His cricket coach was the force that got Usain thinking about track and field, surprisingly enough. The top sprinting talent in the world has come out of Jamaica in the last ten years. This attitude would have to change if he wanted to take it to the next level, and in 2004, when he became a professional, it did. Fortunately for Usain, his school had a long history of excelling at track and field, so he didn't have far to go to start getting the training he needed. Usain was born in Trelawny, Jamaica, August 28, 1986. On May 31, 2008, Usain fulfilled that prediction by winning the gold medal in the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints, smashing both world records in the process.
A new name arrived on the world sprint scene a few years back - Usain Bolt. Usain coasted to success after success, even as his competition struggled to improve. This is testament to what an unusual and unique talent he truly is.
A move to the big leagues brought with it a lot more responsibility. He really put little effort into his sprinting training as it was not yet a passion of his.
